Easter Week 2020 is from Easter Sunday April 12th to Easter Saturday April 18th.

What is Holy Week?

Palm Sunday, which commemorates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, marks the beginning of Holy Week. Holy Week is the annual Christian observance commemorating Jesus' last week on Earth and the events leading up to his resurrection on Easter Sunday. It is the final week of Lent and the week prior to Easter Sunday. Remember Shrove Tuesday also known as Pancake Tuesday when you made and ate pancakes. The next day on Ash Wednesday you got ashes on your head and then you gave up all those yummy treats. Well done! Holy Week ends on Holy Saturday. Holy week includes Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

Holy Week does not include Easter Sunday. Easter Sunday, the first day of Easter Week, immediately follows Holy Week which is a day of joyous celebration.

Palm Sunday - April 5th

Jesus came in peace into Jerusalem. Jesus’ followers and supporters lined the road into the city, waved branches cut from palm trees (That is why we celebrate Palm Sunday with palm tree branches). This entry into Jerusalem fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies promising that God's Messiah would enter the holy city and go to the temple.

Holy Saturday - April 11th

Holy Saturday is the day after Good Friday and the day before Easter Sunday. It is the last day of Lent and it is also the last day of Holy Week in which Christians prepare for Easter. It commemorates the one full day that Jesus Christ's body lay in the tomb and it is the first day of the Easter Weekend.

Did you know that: Holy Saturday should not be confused with Easter Saturday, as, correctly applied, this term is used to refer to the Saturday in Easter Week .
